Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to play some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus attention even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his abilities happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would frequently challenge each other. Howard was able to access several of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
