Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
