Hiding Tells

Do you ever obtain that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the closest betting house, to find a high stakes casino game of Hold’em, to sit at a Twenty-one table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I like to scratch it.

I also like to watch people today bet. No two poker faces seem identical. When I wager I like to consider I put on a poker face that’s impassable. Except I know I’ve certain mannerisms. For 1, the only time I smoke is when I play poker or Blackjack. And then I chain smoke. Except I smoke no matter if I am winning or losing, regardless of whether I have a excellent hand or bad.

I once wagered inside a weekly poker game. The game was constantly five card draw. There was a guy who played with us just about every week who always wore a hat. When he was dealt a very good hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.

The greatest poker gambler I ever saw was a gentleman who produced more actions and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Often an costly suit and tie, footwear shined and nails trimmed. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was always brushing his pant leg or holding his hands or stacking his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to examine him for long periods of time. I would attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Choosing lint off his jacket- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a short pile – did this imply he had a great hand?

Many years later I ran into him in a very bar in Vegas and we had a drink. I asked him if he were aware of all those activities he created or if they had been unconscious. He informed me that just about every individual thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is often checking out everyone else’s poker face. They’re trying to detect the the tell.

So his program was to give them lots to think about. His reasoning was if they have been thinking about him picking a piece of fuzz off his coat and what it meant they certain were not thinking about their cards.

His program was distraction. And it worked for him. In no way give up a process that operates for you.
