Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi low begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants often get confused. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in nearly all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.
