Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he would play many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and concentrate more on the game.

The actual advancement in his game happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly play against each other. He had access into some of the best players in chess. He moved to Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
