Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Kole on April 22nd, 2026
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
