Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
