Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi/lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some players get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

Although it seems complicated at first, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting array of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, as well as several trying for the low. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
